Once on the mountain, you’ll enter a tree canopy rain forest for a 5-mile climb to the summit. On the descent, floral scents and bamboo walls give way to stunning views of Waikiki, Honolulu, Pearl Harbor and the Pacific Ocean.
Distance: 21 miles round trip
Difficulty: Hard, with a strenuous 5-mile, 1600′ climb. For experienced cyclists.
Terrain: Mostly bike lanes on the way to the base of the climb; no bike lanes on the climb or descent. Twisty roads with lots of switchbacks. Tree canopy causes some wet sections year ’round.
Time: 2-4 hours
Best Bike: Our Performance Road bike is the best choice for this ride.
What to see and do along the way: President Obama’s high school (Punahou School), Spalding House museum and restaurant, Punchbowl Cemetery, Tantalus lookout with incredible panoramic views. Look for the hidden swing!
This ride has an option to visit Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific. Honor our fallen heroes and view the tile mural of the WWII Pacific War Theater. Out of respect, bicycles must be locked at the entrance or walked in the cemetery. This option adds 4 miles for a total 25-mile round trip
